As a new mom, I felt like each morning was a race.
We all have a certain routine in the morning and not until the routine is complete do we feel human and ready to take on the day. With a new baby I wasn’t getting a lot of sleep, so setting an alarm to wake up at 6:30 a.m. was out of the question for me. Especially since I had likely just gone back to sleep after a 5:30 a.m. feeding.
My morning routine is pretty simple.
Part 1:
- Brush teeth.
- Apply deodorant.
- Put lotion on face.
- Get dressed. (This last step isn’t always necessary, when pajamas can do the trick.)
Part 2:
- Prepare and eat my breakfast.
- Read one or two newspaper articles. (This step is more like the cherry on top and not actually necessary. But, it helped me to still feel like a person and not just a meal machine and diaper changer.)
If all these

I’ve outsourced, since my husband’s schedule (and compliance) is spotty at best. Not the most fiscally responsible thing to do, but sanity is an invaluable thing. Now I have the luxury of knowing that toilets, beds, everything will be clean at least 1x/2weeks. I am entirely aware that this is truly a luxury and not available to everyone, and am grateful for it.
Great idea. Wish I had a delegatee. Like you, I have a list of eight things I have to just to get the ball rolling each morning. That doesn’t include getting to read ANYTHING. (However, it DOES include a nice warm shower — oh, the bliss!) Can you help me think of one thing I could “hand off?” (Whoops! I just remembered it’s 10:30. I haven’t had my meds yet! No wonder my brain is so “douncy.”) Love, Liz Campbell
